ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTER / MATERIAL SPECIFIER

 

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage drafting phase of projects through issuance of the fabrication paperwork.
  • Develop shop drawings, technical data, and material submittals for client approval.
  • Coordinate with outside engineering consultants in the development of submittals and/or engineered calculations.
  • Perform material research as required.
  • After approved shop drawings, develop 2D CAD fabrication drawings.
  • Develop Preliminary Material Orders (PMO) if required, and Final Material Orders (FMO).
  • Respond to questions as they arise from the fabrication group.
  • Assist estimating department as required.
  • Maintain drawing filed and data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two-year degree or relevant experience minimum.
  • Ideally experience in glazing systems and/or custom fabrication work.
  • Excellent 2D CAD computer skills.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural contract drawings and specifications.
  • Basic understanding of field construction practices.
  • Experience with and working knowledge of Windows Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).

DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Technical aptitude with a desire to learn.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with aluminum die development.
  • Familiarity with air/water/structural testing of glazing or wall systems.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities with consistent follow-through.
  • Keen attention to detail and quick learner.
  • Professional in demeanor and a true team player.
  • Highly motivated, high energy, positive outlook with a strong work ethic.
  • Enjoys hands on development of new ideas and products.

COST ESTIMATOR POSITION

 

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review construction contract drawings and specifications, perform material takeoffs and generate project estimates utilizing estimating software programs.
  • Prepare customer quotes as directed by the Inside Sales group.
  • Maintain material cost and test report data bases from material suppliers.
  • Solicit outside quotes for materials and/or fabricated materials.
  • Maintain quote log.
  • Provide estimating support to the Production group.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  A minimum of 2 years’ experience in estimating in the construction industry. Custom fabrication estimating preferred with emphasis on building envelope systems.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Excellent skills using Microsoft Office Word and Excel software programs.
  • Ability to read and understand contract document drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to perform material takeoffs using scaled drawings, PDFs, and Bluebeam.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.

DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Technical aptitude with a desire to learn.
  • Prior experience with estimating software.
  • Experience in aluminum skylight or curtainwall framing systems is a plus.
  • Ability to multitask and set priorities with consistent follow-through.
  • Professional in demeanor and a true team player.
  • Highly motivated, high energy, positive outlook with a strong work ethic.
