CELEBRATING 50 YEARS: The Patent That Launched MATRIXWALL

Matrixwall Patent

In 2009, EXTECH was awarded a patent that laid the groundwork for what has become one of its most versatile and recognizable systems: MATRIXWALL. This early innovation introduced a glass block screen wall system that set a new standard for flexibility, performance, and aesthetics in industrial and commercial envelope systems. These are standards the system continues to meet today.

The patent protected the structural design of MATRIXWALL’s interlocking glass block configuration, which allowed for easy customization, block replacement, long-term performance, and vandal resistance. At the time, few glass block systems offered such a balanced combination of easy installation and rapid individual block replacement, material longevity, and visual simplicity. By addressing both installation efficiency and durability, EXTECH created a wall solution that met the growing demand for energy-conscious, low-maintenance building systems.

MATRIXWALL’s design is especially well-suited to large-scale retrofits and new construction projects. Its adaptability continues to make it a go-to choice for architects and facility owners across sectors from transportation and manufacturing to civic architecture.

This patent represents a key milestone in EXTECH’s ongoing pursuit of functional, well-engineered building systems. It laid the foundation for future advancements that would further enhance MATRIXWALL’s performance, versatility, and role in EXTECH’s growing portfolio of systems.
