Celebrating 50 Years: A Legacy of Trust and Technical Excellence

From 1979 to 1982, EXTECH supplied and installed 2½ miles of top-hinged windows at the Martin-Marietta complex in Baltimore, now Lockheed-Martin. This multi-year building retrofit project modernized a significant facility and earned EXTECH praise for its execution and technical leadership. The team worked directly with the owner to deliver energy-efficient envelope upgrades, manage logistics, and execute complex installation with precision.

In a letter dated December 1, 1982, Chesapeake Park president William L. Lambdin commended EXTECH’s performance. Preserved in EXTECH’s historical records, the letter speaks volumes about the company’s role on the project. Here is the letter in full:

Dear Bill:
As you know, the Martin Marietta/Chesapeake Park project for the rehabilitation of the buildings at Chesapeake Park is nearing completion. This multi-year project has resulted in an energy efficient modern appearing complex which is already paying dividends in terms of significant cost savings for fuel and maintenance.

Although we were fortunate to have excellent engineering and architectural services in connection with the project, the fact is that the actual accomplishment of the work lay with your firm. We must note that in all our years of contracting experience, yours is the most outstanding firm that we have ever done business with. We believe that the success of our project, one of the largest of its type in the country, is due primarily to the personal integrity and technical excellence which you brought to the job on a daily basis.

Our thanks for an excellent job.

More than forty years later, this project remains a defining example of EXTECH’s commitment to integrity, performance, and technical leadership, qualities that continue to guide its work today.
