At the Foundry District, a revitalized mixed-use destination in Fort Worth, the design team sought a canopy solution that would deliver both functional weather protection and a visually distinctive architectural feature. EXTECH partnered with the project team to provide a high-performance daylighting canopy system tailored to meet these goals.

EXTECH supplied its SKYSHADE 3100 standing seam polycarbonate canopy system, engineered to meet both performance and design requirements.

The system features 20mm structural polycarbonate panels integrated into an aluminum framing assembly with clip-and-batten covers, delivering a clean, streamlined appearance while ensuring structural integrity.

Spanning a total of 1,918 square feet across four distinct canopy structures, the system provides consistent overhead coverage while maintaining a lightweight, modern profile.

To further elevate the design, the canopies were finished with a printed clear vinyl laminate film wrap, introducing a custom visual layer that enhances the architectural identity of the space without compromising light transmission. The tie-dye print design ties into the surrounding artistic installations that are part of the Foundry District’s unique design.

The multiwall polycarbonate panels diffuse natural light, reducing glare and eliminating harsh shadows while maintaining bright, inviting pedestrian areas below.   The standing seam system and aluminum framing complement the industrial-modern aesthetic of the Foundry District, aligning with the architect’s vision.  Polycarbonate glazing offers high impact resistance and long-term performance, while the system’s design minimizes maintenance requirements over time. The prefabricated system components supported efficient installation by Exposed Roof Design LLC, helping keep the project on schedule.

The completed canopy installations enhance both the functionality and visual character of the Foundry District. EXTECH’s SKYSHADE 3100 system delivers a balance of daylighting, protection, and design flexibility, creating comfortable, visually engaging spaces for visitors while meeting the performance expectations of the owner and design team.
