When the MBTA Iron Horse Park Center required a new facility, equipped with an entrance canopy, the project team faced a tight construction schedule that required a solution capable of being designed, fabricated, and installed within a compressed timeframe. Working closely with the architect and contractor, EXTECH delivered a 970 SF glass canopy system that met the project’s schedule while providing a clean, contemporary entrance designed for decades of service.
The project schedule left little room for lengthy field fabrication or design revisions. The owner required an entrance canopy that would:
- Meet an accelerated construction schedule
- Install quickly with minimal field modifications
- Deliver a refined architectural appearance appropriate for a public transportation facility
- Provide long-term durability and low maintenance
Meeting these objectives required more than simply supplying a canopy. It required a manufacturing partner capable of engineering, fabricating, and delivering a complete system ready for efficient installation.
EXTECH recommended its SKYSHADE 2500© Glass Canopy System, providing a fully factory-fabricated aluminum framing system engineered to fit 1” laminated glass.
Rather than relying on extensive field fabrication, the system was manufactured and prepared in the factory, reducing installation complexity and helping the contractor stay on schedule.
During the design consultation, EXTECH worked directly with the project team to develop a custom solution that balanced speed of delivery, constructability, and long-term performance. The result was a canopy system that satisfied the fast-tracked construction timeline while maintaining the architectural quality expected for a highly visible public entrance.
