Greyhound Bus Station
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Architects: IKM Architects
System: Custom Facade
For this modern building facade at the Greyhound Bus Station in Pittsburgh, PA, EXTECH used special laminated monolithic polycarbonate panels which are designed to diffuse light. Monolithic polycarbonate possesses a typical thickness of 1/4 on an inch, and is 100% recyclable. The panels were point fastened to the steel structure using custom made stainless steel "spiders" which EXTECH designed and fabricated. Acorn nuts are visible at each of the four corners of each panel.
These translucent panels are lighted from behind with alternating red, blue, and green lighting. At night, the multi-colored wall stands out and glows against the skyline, much like the Empire State Building.
